About Ian

As a Retreat Facilitator and Intern at Guardian Hills, I’m honored to be part of an organization that provides such crucial and impactful healing experiences for veterans. My academic foundation includes a Bachelor’s in Applied Health Science/Exercise Science, and I’m currently advancing my education with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, specializing in areas like trauma and the stress response system. What truly excites me about my role is being able to apply my knowledge in practical, transformative ways. I’m certified in equine-assisted psychotherapy, and I’m also pursuing certification as a yoga instructor, both of which are integral to the diverse and grounded curriculum we use at the retreat. From engaging with the horses, to mindful time outdoors, archery, and other self-expression activities, I feel honored to witness how these elements contribute to the holistic well-being that the service men and women of our country deserve. My own experience going through the Guardian Hills program deepened my appreciation for its profound impact. It offered a space for me to understand the generational effects of trauma and the vital utility in understanding one’s self within the context of past experiences. This process, much like a tree developing deeper roots and new branches after weathering a storm, fostered in me a responsibility to grow in areas that are life giving. The practices I choose help me pursue that growth with increased resilience and purpose. I am deeply committed to supporting veterans and their families in finding restoration, peace, and renewed meaning through the understanding and connection fostered at Guardian Hills.
