Julie Heese is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) recognized for her dedication and expertise in serving veterans and their families. With over sixteen years of experience in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) system, Julie has become a trusted and compassionate provider of mental health and medical care management services for those who have served our country.
For six years, Julie worked at the Vet Center in Columbia, Missouri, offering individual, group, and couples therapy to veterans from all eras and their family members and partners. Her work extended beyond one-on-one counseling, as she facilitated a range of support groups, including those for women veterans, social support groups, OEF/OIF veterans, and Vietnam veterans. Julie’s ability to create safe, supportive environments allowed veterans to connect, share, and heal within their communities.
Prior to her role at the Vet Center, Julie spent over a decade at the Truman VA Medical Center in Columbia, MO. As the OEF/OIF/OND Transition Care Case Manager, she assisted returning combat veterans in navigating the complexities of the VA medical and mental health care system. During her tenure, Julie provided ongoing support and care management services, including extensive guidance for seriously injured and ill veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Her commitment ensured that these veterans received the resources and support necessary for their recovery and reintegration.
Throughout her distinguished career, Julie has pursued advanced training in critical areas such as Moral Injury, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Combat Trauma, Military Sexual Trauma, Substance Abuse and Addictions, and Family Systems. Her expertise in these fields has equipped her to address the unique challenges faced by veterans and their families, enabling her to deliver both evidence-based and faith-based interventions tailored to individual needs.
Julie’s extensive background in treating Moral Injury and PTSD, combined with her holistic approach, allows her to provide exceptional care for veterans attending the Guardian Hills Healing Veterans Retreats. Her integration of faith-based principles with evidence-based practices ensures that each veteran receives personalized support that honors their experiences and fosters healing.
