John James Glenn, Jr, Secretary

Early Career
John Glenn, Jr. is a retired fundraising executive with more than 23 years of professional and 15 years of volunteer experience and success in the workplace, corporate and individual giving campaigns. During his career, he has led staff and volunteers on teams that combined to raise nearly $1.5 billion in contributions to fund agencies in the Greater St Louis region. John’s educational background includes the Naval Justice School, Newport, Rhode Island, Fontbonne University in St Louis and Harvard Mentor Management.
Military Career
John’s career in leadership began in the U.S. Marine Corps, which encompassed over 21 years of service. During this time, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam, he served as NCOIC/Assistant Liaison to the U.S. Army Quarter Masters Center responsible for supporting USMC students, a distinguished recruiter/recruiter instructor, Personnel and Legal Officer for Headquarters, 2nd MAW, Cherry Point, NC and as a Marine Corps Liaison Officer and records custodian for more than three million USMC records providing requested information to the White House, Congress, Headquarters USMC, and veterans/family members. Beginning as an enlisted member, John rose through the ranks and ultimately obtained commissioned status before his retirement in 1992.
Fundraising Career
After military separation, John began a distinguished career with United Way of Greater St Louis which would span the next 23 years. From 1992-2003, he served as Director, East-West Gateway, Combined Federal Campaign for United Way’s role as Principle Combined Fund Organization(PCFO). In this role, he wrote responses to the annual PCFO request for proposals as well as developed and oversaw the budget, annual work plan and coordinated internal United Way Support while recruiting and training 3,000 volunteers annually. In this capacity, his teams raised nearly 450 million. From 1995-2003, he was Vice President, United Way of Greater St Louis. During this time, he provided staff/volunteer support for public and private sector divisions, organized and managed the Loaned Executive Program and planned and served as chair of the Combined Federal Campaign’s (CFC) Million Dollar Roundtable in San Diego. Finally, from 2003-2015, John was Region Vice President, with primary responsibility for volunteer recruitment, fundraising and board management for the Tri-County Region which serves Lincoln, St Charles and Warren Counties. He supported 150 corporate/employee campaigns and wrote annual grant requests encompassing such companies as MasterCard and Toyota. Other responsibilities included staffing volunteers from Mastercard, Edward Jones, Citi and Wells Fargo for the Financial Services Market for the Charmaine Chapman Society, liaison to the Missouri and CFC employee campaigns and planning and serving as chair of the CFC’s Million Dollar Roundtable in Las Vegas.
Currently
Since his retirement in 2015, John has been extremely active in community volunteer service. He is the current President of the Missouri Council of Chapters of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Past President of the Greater St Louis Chapter. He is the Immediate Past President of the St Charles Community Assistance Board. He serves as a Director on the SSM St Joseph Hospital Advisory Board, the St Charles County Community Council and served on the Board of St Charles County Vision Leadership and led the Tourism and Health and Social Services Days committees. In addition, John is a Member/Ambassador.
